Interests: Our mission is to bring together medical students and health-related professionals interested in the health issues that affect the community so that we may have a strong, collective, public and political voice. We are interested in both directly promoting the health and well-being of the underserved community as well as in helping all health care workers who work with these communities. Furthermore, we advocate collaboration with other organizations and forums for APA and non-APA medical students to meet, exchange information and experiences and develop personally and professionally.

National APAMSA Conference held October 6-7, 2006

This year's National Conference was held at at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland.  The theme was, "Medicine: A Call to Service," which reflects the rapidly evolving field of medicine and increasingly diverse roles of physicians.

Some of the workshop topics: Hepatitis B in APA Community, Challenges Facing Multicultural Families, Mass Casualty Workshop, International Adoption Pediatrics, and APA Medical Students: Stereotypes and Educational Profiling.

It was certainly a different experience to visit a school with tight regulations and uniform requirements. Above are our new found friends Sameer and Art.

The conference gave us a chance to meet other medical students both MDs and DOs. Above is a picture of Jessica from Kirksville University. We were glad to give her some tips on how to start APAMSA in their school.

Attending the conference was worthwhile and gave us an opportunity to represent CCOM. We definitely made an impact as our very own president was nominated as Junior Regional Director.

Congratulations to Linda Nguyen for being elected Junior Regional Director!

Some announcements:

The APAMSA Officers would like to THANK all the members who participated in the past months' events (pictures below). Let's keep up the good work and keep our chapter active!

Also, we are planning to host this school year's Regional Conference at MWU granted that we receive the appropriate approvals from our faculty as well as monetary support. We are aiming to have this conference around the time we have our springbreak. Please think about devoting some time either in preparation for the conference or lending out a helping hand the day of the conference. More details to follow.

Please mark your calendars on the following days:

December 13, 2006 Wednesday LUNCHTIME    Kim Setlak and Rose Robel will have a slideshow presentation of  their Summer Study Abroad Experience

January 12, 2007 Friday    We will have a fundraiser graduation flower sale. Please help us out by devoting one hour of your time.

The kids were happy. WE were happy because there was a ton of candy! And of course, we made our booth to be the ultimate asian game, DDR! To fit the halloween theme, we changed its name to 'Gremlin Groove.' The kids and some of the big "kids" were definitely groovin'. Thank you members for an awesome halloween!!!
